How well does physics predict observations and discoveries?

On the stunning results of elementary particle physics and cosmology

Modern knowledge of the microcosm and the cosmos is still far from perfect. For example, we can not describe in detail the strong interactions of elementary particles, or explain the absence of antimatter in space and the expansion rate of the universe for sure. However, fundamental physics does progresses, and not without the involvement of modern computer technologies. The triumph of high energy physics was the discovery of the W and Z bosons, which confirmed the theory of the weak interaction that predicted their existence for two decades before the discovery. In cosmology, no less significant advance was the discovery of the accelerated expansion of the universe as well as the creation and development of so-called inflationary theory of the evolution of the universe, which explains many of its mysteries.

Detection of carriers of the weak interaction was a triumph of elementary particle physics

What kind of people are those physicists — have turned the nature inside out.
